The list is long. Rush Limbaugh’s personal attacks against good men and women, and his obvious efforts to divide our nation are too numerous to list in a single article. During the State of the Union address another man unfit to be in a position of influence awarded Limbaugh the ‘Medal of Freedom.’ This is a clear insult to every other recipient of our nation’s highest civilian honor.
Limbaugh is an old, white fascist whose hatred for everyone who is not extremely conservative is infamous. I and many others claimed for years that, “Rush is so far to the right, he’s always wrong.”
The drug addict’s most recent attack has been focused on presidential candidate, Pete Buttigieg. Limbaugh told his listeners that “if Buttigieg made the debates later this year, Americans would see a 37-year-old gay guy kissing his husband on stage, next to Mr. Man, Donald Trump”.
He wasn’t finished. Voters, he said, would conclude that “despite all the great wokeness and despite all the great ground that’s been covered, that America’s still not ready to elect a ‘gay guy kissing his husband on the debate stage’ president”.
Whether or not there is a sliver of truth in Limbaugh’s rants, he continues Trump’s tactics of attacking those who do not agree with him personally. The truth is that hate crimes, the result of increased anger, hatred, and violence based on racism and bigotry, have increased by more than 800 percent since November 2016.
“Mayor Pete,” as he has become known, did not counterattack Limbaugh, but made a simple statement in response.
He said: “I’m not going to take lectures on family values” from Rush Limbaugh.”
“I love my husband,” the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana and candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination said on Sunday, on CNN’s State of the Union. “I love him very much.”
Fact: Republicans and Republican politicians have been a party of racists for decades. They are not the “Party of Lincoln,” and have not been for nearly 100 years. Every Republican president from Eisenhower to Trump has either displayed bigotry or been forced to defend members of his party or his administration for actions which were racist.
An even more deplorable fact is that Trump has proven himself to be the leader of white supremacy in America today. His choices for close advisers, including the members of his cabinet, were filled with well-known white supremacists and bigots. Jeff Sessions, Steve Bannon, Betsy DeVos, Wilbur Ross, Steve Mnuchin, Steve Miller, Mike Pence, and others have a history of prejudice.
I admit that I was a little shocked when Trump honored Limbaugh during a nationally televised event. Trump is a coward, and I found it difficult to believe that his arrogance had risen to the level of blatant praise for a racist man whose efforts to divide our nation for 31 years are a well-known fact.
And then I thought about the treasonous action by 52 Republicans just days ago when they acquitted Trump although his Constitutional violations were well documented and irrefutable. Trump now believes that he is above the law more than ever before.
Shame on DJT and anyone who continues to support the worst thing ever to happen to America. An even greater degree of shame belongs to his hypocritical and cowardly party. We can rid our nation of the Trump Party on November 3, 2020.
