The truth is that awards and honors mean nothing. However, when the undeserving receive accolades that does mean something. First, it demeans the meaning of the awards for others who earned them. Second, it is an insult to those who created the award.

Melania Trump received a “Woman of Distinction” award on Wednesday from Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) in Florida, despite concerns from some residents that she was undeserving of the honor. The only question to ask is : “What has Trump’s trophy wife accomplished to deserve any honor?” Unlike Jackie Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama she has not been involved in the lives of America’s women or children.

Let’s do what I like to do the most; breakdown this fallacious and facetious statement.

First; ‘an exquisite human being.’ What might that mean? She was a nude model before agreeing to pleasure an obese, egomaniac as his trophy wife.

Second; a ‘magnificent wife and life partner.’ The truth is that she surely signed a prenuptial agreement. If she filed for divorce based on truth about their life together and what he has done in private, she would be forced to leave a life of luxury and privilege.

Third; a ‘good mother?’ No one knows. I would hope that she is. But an ‘outstanding first lady, who represents us brilliantly in the United States and worldwide?’ Again, what has she done for anyone but herself and her husband? Her silly personal campaign, “Be Best,” is intended to be support for anti-bullying efforts in America, but other than giving it a meaningless name, what has she done to end personal assaults in our schools?

I have no malice for Trump’s eye candy, but I also have no reason to admire her. Respect and admiration are earned. Hanging on the arm of a man without morals or principles; a man who lies constantly; and a man who had two affairs after her son was born with a porn star and a Playboy model; if anything she has lost any and all respect I might have once had for her as an individual.

The members of the staff and the students at Palm Beach Atlantic University have a reason to complain. I was angry when Trump gave our nation’s highest civilian honor to a man who has intentionally divided our nation for 31 years during the State of the Union address. Trump insulted every previous recipient who deserved recognition for their accomplishments.
