Part Two 

First the facts. Since Trump was nominated in July of 2016, hate crimes across the nation have risen by more than 800 percent. Minorities, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, members of the LGBTQ community, and women in general have been verbally and physically assaulted. Synagogues and Mosques have been vandalized frequently.

During every rally designed to soothe his enormous ego, Trump spreads anger and hatred, and incites violence. Of course, he denies the truth.

Last year ABC discovered 36 verifiable incidents when acts of violence, threats, and assaults: all attributable to Trump’s hate speech.

“I think my rhetoric brings people together,” Trump said in August of 2019, four days after a 21-year-old posted an anti-immigrant screed online and then opened fire at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, killing 22 and injuring dozens of others.

Trump and his cult, America’s white supremacist movement, celebrated this shooting and every other which is related to non-whites and “non-Christians.”

ABC reports nine incidents when the perpetrators shouted praise for Trump before or after they physically attacked their innocent victims. Another 10 incidents involved verbally assaulting and/or threatening individuals while defending Trump’s support of blatant racism. At least 10 times Trump’s policies were used in a court of law to defend acts of violence.

“Seven cases involved violent or threatening acts perpetrated in defiance of Trump, with many of them targeting Trump’s allies in Congress. But the vast majority of the cases — 29 of the 36 — reflect someone echoing presidential rhetoric, not protesting it.”

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Dozens of these types of vile and deplorable actions go unreported or uncharged. Our nation has not been this divided since the Civil War.

The mainstream media would like us to believe that Trump’s supporters are angry with government in general, and that Trump is “different.” This is complete bullshit. Trump is the worst of America, and any individual and any politician who continues to support him after three long years shares Donny Boy’s vision of America. He wants to see the return of a nation which prevented equal rights for all Americans. A country when a man or a woman could be hung or murdered with any method available just for the color of their skin. A nation where Hispanics were slave labor in our fields and were treated as less than human. The LGBTQ community and non-Christians were shunned. And women accepted their ‘place’ as second-class citizens.

Is this your America? It’s not mine.

I have been a proud American for most of my 74 years, until now. I took pride in our young nation as it began to grow. The Civil Rights Act was signed the year I graduated from high school. My generation was called “hippies,” “flower children” and words and terms not nearly as nice. We were proud to protest a war which cost the lives of more than 58,000 Americans. No one can offer a reasonable answer today for the primary question we asked then: “what were we fighting for.” Although minorities, the LGBTQ community, and women continue to struggle for their Constitutional rights, progress has been made. With every passing day the United States is becoming more diverse. Soon there will be no ‘pure whites’ in America. Our nation will be the most beautiful nation in the world.

When racism, and bigotry; when all ignorant prejudices are nothing but a bad memory, America will finally become a great nation. The first step is for our government to place people before profit; the safety of all Americans ahead of the profits created by endless, unwinnable wars. When the discussion about financing social programs is replaced by simply doing the right thing, only then will America become the greatest nation in the world.

Small-minded men like Trump and his followers cannot take away our country; our rights, if we refuse to let them. Our vote can win this revolution. If all Republicans are removed from Washington, and replaced with younger women and men who wish to serve us and not rule over us, America can begin to heal and the country of our founding fathers be restored.
