What is the Emoluments Clause? It is a stipulation in the Rules of Ethics governing our president and his ability to continue private business while in office. Although a sitting president may continue his or her involvement in American business interests, he or she may not use his or her position to increase business in foreign nations. To do so is a direct violation of the Constitution.
The 4th Circuit Court ruled that a lawsuit charging Trump with violating the Emoluments Clause repeatedly may proceed. Trump’s attorneys will now take the next step and ask the Supreme Court to hear their case. Trump and Moscow Mitch McConnell pushed two right-wing extremists through the confirmation process who are unqualified to serve on the highest court in the land, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh. Will they uphold the Constitution, or will they serve their master? The Court is dominated by Republican appointees 5-4.
You can fact check me, but the truth is that in some manner Trump has violated the Constitution every day of his illegitimate presidency as he continues to show disrespect for the American people and the Law of the Land. Trump is using his illegitimate presidency to increase his personal wealth not to serve the country, and his actions are pure fascism.
Trump made many promises to his cult during the 2016 campaign. Included in the promises he never kept were the most serious issues facing our nation. Not only has he failed to improve our healthcare system, repair our infrastructure, end the opioid crisis, reform our immigration laws, provide free or low-cost education for everyone, he has ignored women’s rights and a growing income inequality completely. His illegitimate presidency has been composed of playing golf, partying at Mar-a-Lago and other resorts, holding hate rallies to soothe his enormous ego, and watching Fox Noise.
His legacy will be labeled “the Do-Nothing President.” And no one will every forget that he is only our third president to be impeached, and could be once again. His disrespect for the Constitution he promised to “preserve, protect, and defend” is unforgivable.
