Any man or woman who seeks the presidency must be a leader. A great leader leads by example. A good leader makes wise decisions in times of crisis. A failed leader breaks the basic rule that “the only bad decision is to make no decision at all:” this was Trump’s failure with the coronavirus and the murder of George Floyd.
Only two prior presidents experienced an approval rating in the 30’s in June of their reelection year. Both Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush lost their bid for a second term.
Let’s break down Trump’s support for the three categories of voters, Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.
Republican support dropped seven points in the last couple of months, down to 85 percent: the lowest from his own party in two years.
His approval rating has also dropped among the most significant group, Independents, by seven percent, now standing at 39 percent.
Offering no surprise, only five percent of Democrats approve of Trump’s presidency.
Trump has been his own worst enemy. His “march through Lafayette Park” behind military firing rubber bullets and using tear gas canisters was an act of pure fascism. Trump forbade the first amendment rights of hundreds of peaceful protesters. And on Tuesday he manufactured a conspiracy theory about a 75-year-old man in Buffalo, who was shoved to the ground by police. After his head struck the concrete, he began bleeding from his ear as members of the Buffalo Police Department marched over him. He was listed ‘in serious condition’ at a local hospital.
Trump is a typical bully. He is a coward. After hiding in the White House bunker after protesters stood outside of the White House gates, he called in the military to attack American citizens. His purpose? To have a “photo op” at St. John’s Episcopal Church. What the f**k!
Few of our nation’s 44 previous presidents were as effective as the American people needed them to be. With the exception of Barrack Obama, they were all white men. Most of them were older and out of touch with their nation’s people.
However our 45th illegitimate president is the worst thing to ever happen to America. He is not an American, and refuses to serve any American citizen who does not offer him their allegiance.
We deserve better, and that would be easy. Nearly any American, with the exception of Moscow Mitch McConnell, would be a far better leader.
