Choice of Sandoval Would Give Nevadans Mixed Emotions

Brian Sandoval

I moved to Northern Nevada in 1986. Obviously there have been several governors during my 30 years in the Silver State. Of them all, Brian Sandoval is the most popular, and the one I admire the most.

You likely know that I am an Independent; Sandoval is a moderate Republican. Sandoval is a negotiator. He worked with Tesla owner Elon Musk to construct a batter factory in Northern Nevada, creating thousands of jobs, and giving an assist to the housing market. He has fought for alternative energy relentlessly. Just last week the first charging station for electric cars was operable in rural Nevada; and it is free.

Sandoval supports abortion rights. Before the Supreme Court struck down laws banning same-sex marriage, Sandoval took action to rule that Nevada’s law was unfair and repealed it. He is pro-gun rights.

Before he became Nevada’s governor, he was a federal judge, appointed by George W. Bush. Mitch McConnell and other obstructionists have sworn to literally ignore any nominee offered by the President.

If it was Sandoval, they only have a single argument; he is not far enough to the right, and that would be an un-American action by the right wing. The Court was intended to be apolitical by our founding fathers.

If Sandoval is nominated by Mr. Obama, and Republicans reject him, they will be exposed for what they truly are; a gang of thugs who want everything their own way, or they’ll take their ball and go home.

The only problem I see is for the people of Nevada. Although we love our governor, we’re not so excited about our Lieutenant Governor, Mark Hutchison. We would be losing the best of the best; our loss would be the nation’s gain.
