I gave kudos when Democrats in the House staged a sit-in before the 4th of July break to demand action to insure the safety of the American people. If Republicans were not so desperate to maintain the support of the gun lobby, the NRA, they would have joined their Democratic counterparts. Members of the GOP have no concern for public safety, their only priority is reelection.
Attempts are being conducted at this very moment to censure the only true patriots in the House for demanding that all members support the wishes of the American people, and deny the special interests of gun manufacturers and gun sellers.
Without the support of the gun lobby, the NRA, many Republicans would not be elected or reelected. As their demographics diminish, they are desperate to support the few voting blocs which continue their joint loyalty.
The latest Gallup poll reveals the 55 percent of all Americans support stricter gun legislation; including gun owners. When the profits of the gun industry supersede the safety and opinions of the majority of the American people, questions must be asked, and direct answers demanded of the industry and Republicans who support it.
Republicans reject our Democratic Republic. They refuse to represent the majority of the American people. Lobbyists are in control of Republican Representatives and Senators. If you vote for a Republican, you are voting against the American people.
The issue regarding changes in our gun laws is frivolous. When the NRA or the Republican Party cites the second amendment as their reason for rejecting sensible gun legislation, they are ignoring the meaning of that amendment. While Republicans reject sections of the first amendment, and ignore the 4th and 14th amendments, they hypocritically claim that the 2nd amendment cannot be examined to reflect the changes in the weapons of mass destruction available today. This is simply another situation when we must ‘follow the money.’
The NRA is not concerned with second amendment rights; it is concerned with profit.
While Democrats were sitting on the floor of the House, Speaker Paul Ryan and his cronies were at home drinking bottles of wine gifted by lobbyists. When the protest ended, Republicans were quick to defend the NRA and condemn their Democratic brethren.
Kevin McCarthy is the House majority leader with an A+ rating from the NRA.
“This is not the way the House should work,” Mr. McCarthy said. “You first have to know all the facts. Action has to be taken on behavior taken toward professional staff.”
He disregarded the action taken on behalf of the American people, and claims that he and Ryan will enact revenge upon their Democratic rivals.
“The lengths the House Republican leadership will go to follow the N.R.A.’s marching orders know no bounds,” said Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Representative Nancy Pelosi, the minority leader who participated in the sit-in.
The reason Republicans love the NRA and hate the American people is obvious; campaign contributions. “Money talks,” and hypocritical Republicans love money; this is their true god.

I agree with you completely, James. The U.S. is not based on democracy, but capitalism. As the Supreme Court stated: Corporations are people. The only way to have significant gun regulation – not gun CONTROL – gun REGULATION, is if the balance of power shifts to the degree that the voice of the people is louder than the voice of gun lobby. We have not even come close to shifting that balance, even though the majority if individuals favor gun regulation.
