Denying Climate Change for Campaign Funds

Arctic

This only happens in America; and it’s nothing to be proud of. The majority of Republicans deny that climate change is caused by man. FOX Noise has brainwashed many of its viewers who also claim that it is a hoax. Here’s the truth. If you fail to recognize the greatest danger facing the world, you must literally have your head examined; it’s missing some parts.

I understand why Republican politicians deny the truth; the largest polluters are also some of their largest campaign contributors. But for even a semi-educated man or woman to claim that scientific fact is not true, I become far more fearful for the future of my country and the planet than ever before.

Fossil fuels are not only harmful to air, water, and land, they are becoming unnecessary; and therein lies the truth hidden by Republicans. The GOP has resisted increased funding for renewable energy to protect the petroleum industry and its bloated profits and subsidies. John McCain once had a campaign motto; Country First. The GOP’s motto today is Profit Before People.

Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse “called out” more than a hundred organizations who pay for advertisements and testimonials claiming that climate change is not real.

“Just like the mythological hydra the same beast has many heads,” said Whitehouse, who is a long term campaigner for tougher laws to curb US greenhouse gas emissions.

“Oil, gas and coal companies employed a network of trade associations, PR firms and think tanks to cover their lobbying activities,” he added.

The problem with Republican’s denial about our most serious and reversible problem, is that simply claiming something is not real doesn’t remove the facts or make it disappear. Our planet’s oceans are rising as the polar ice melts. Storms are more severe and of longer duration. Both tornado and hurricane seasons begin earlier and end later. Droughts in the west and floods in the middle and south of our nation are more devastating than ever before.

According to Republicans, ‘this is just a natural phenomenon; man has no responsibility for the destruction of our planet.’

Our nation has devolved over the last 240 years. When I say our nation, I mean our people and our government. Materialism has replaced spiritualism. Our people are no longer truly religious, they are simply looking for answers for the evils we, ourselves have created. Our government is filled with ‘professional politicians’ whose personal ambitions supersede the future of our nation and the needs of our people.

Personally, I doubt that our country will ever be great. Greatness is judged by ‘quality of life.’ In the latest survey America ranked 14th in the world. Our politicians measure greatness by financial wealth, which involves only one percent of the American people.

Fear and anger have replaced understanding and compassion; that makes us a far worse country than at any other time in our nation’s history.

We should join together, and demand that our government save our water, air and land. We were gifted with a beautiful country, but emphasis on profit is slowly destroying the gifts we were given.
